Checked

The service will generate a pop up message box asking the currently logged on user for permission before sending a log on page to client browsers. If the user clicks yes the log on page will be sent to the client as the shown IP address. If the user clicks no the connection to the client will be closed without receiving any page.

Unchecked

All clients can connect without user intervention.

Registry Information

HKLM\Software\EduVNC contains ServiceName\AskMe which is the check box state. Valid values are:

  • True: The box is checked. A dialog is shown to ask permission before new users can connect.
  • False: The box is unchecked. Connections happen without user intervention
  • If value is undefined or other: The box defaults to False.

Additional Notes

This feature designed to address situations where there is a privacy concern with pre-installed EduVNC services.

This feature only protects access to the log on page it does not grant the right to view or control through EduVNC. Users who are allowed to connect will be presented the usual log on page. They are still limited by the service's other settings including the need to authenticate with a password if it is enabled.

The requesting service's name is show in the dialog's title. Future version my also show the corresponding DNS host name along with the ip address.
