From EduVNC

While there are not yet any current any public beta versions, rest assured we are working behind the scenes on a a completely new version. Development has begun on the next major release of EduVNC (version 3.0). EduVNC is being redesigned hopefully improving on performance, lowing memory consumption, and adding support for newer HTML and Javascript techniques. Also on our road map for the 3.x series are: File Transfers, Directory Browsing, Chat, Recording sessions, Computer Locator, Automatic firewall configuration and other improvements. While most of those will not be part of the initial 3.0 version you can look forward to a growing feature list as version 3.0 evolves towards version 4.0. Check back here in a few months for the 2.9 beta series.

Beta Information

Beta downloads are made available under the same Licensing terms as releases.

Getting the Current Beta

The current beta is version 2.3.9219.4022.

• Download version 2.3.9219.4022 of InstallEduVNC.exe
• Browse the SVN Repository for version 2.3.9219.4022.
• Use a SVN client and checkout the URL: http://svn.eduvnc.com/EduVNC2/Beta/Current/

Download other beta versions directly from our SVN Repository.

Using TortoiseSNV or other SVN client checkout http://svn.eduvnc.com/EduVNC2/Beta/Current/. Running an update then will retrieve any new beta versions.

Installing

Install using the InstallEduVNC.exe installer either with a double click or add /S for silent install (the uninstaller also accepts /S for silent uninstall). Installation happens immediately and it is typically very fast. Icons will be placed in the Start Menu with the typical uninstall link.

Upgrading

The installer will automatically overwrite any older files with new ones. If you wish to erase any existing settings run the uninstaller before running the installer.

1. Stop any running services and exit EduVNC.
2. Optional: Run the Uninstal from the programs folder or Start Menu (removes previous settings)
3. Run the InstallEduVNC.exe installer.

Reverting

When done beta testing you must run the uninstall before running an older installer. If the uninstaller is not run the beta files (which are newer than the file the installer would have install) will not revert to the previous version.

1. Stop any running services and exit EduVNC.
2. Optional: Backup saved settings in HKLM\Software\EduVNC with Regedit.
3. Run the Uninstal from the programs folder or Start Menu.
4. Run the InstallEduVNC.exe installer.
5. Optional: Restore saved settings to HKLM\Software\EduVNC. In case of failure: remove settings for features not present in the older version.

Typical Beta Contents

Typically a beta will have much the same files as a release with a few extras. Typically, like in a release, just the installer (InstallEduVNC.exe) is needed. Other files are provided for those who repackage their own installer. There are no MSI versions of betas as we don't expect massive distribution or production use of betas one installer is sufficient.

• EduVNC.pdb: EduVNC.exe debugging information
