Licensing Information
By default, it is not legal to copy, distribute, alter, or even use copyrighted works (like software) without the permission of the copyright holder. A license is an agreement between a copyright holder and the end user of their work which grants them permission to legally copy and / or use the work under an agreed on set of conditions.
Why license
The licensing and associated fees are simply a way fund future development. EduVNC is primarily designed for educational use by non-profits and publicly funded schools, but it has uses outside those areas. The licensing terms for EduVNC (see below) allow those targeted end users free use of the software. Those groups which don't fall under the terms for free use are expected to contribute a small fee to help fund the application development.
The Terms
These terms apply to both the beta and released versions.
Educational Use by Non-Profit and Publicly Funded Organizations
Organizations which are meet one or both of these requirements:
- Have tax exempt status under United States Internal Revenue Code (26 U.S.C. ยง 501(c)) or country equivalent
- Are minimally 75% publicly funded
are granted license EduVNC at no cost solely for use in an classroom environment. See the full license text: Non-Profit and Publicly Funded License
Use outside a classroom environment is available only with a separate license (see #Everyone Else). Preferential pricing may be available for non-classroom use by the above organizations.
Everyone Else
We ask you pay small licensing fee to help support future versions and our education mission. Our pricing reflects this goal:

Pricing is based on what EduVNC considers a reasonable "donation" to support future development. At the moment licensing is done on the honesty system. The theory is that the potential liability for copyright infringement ($150,000 per copy) makes it worth while to spend the $2 per license to just be legitimate. Not imposing copy controls, product key, etc. makes it far easier to distribute the free version to those school EduVNc is designed to serve. Should it become necessary EduVNC may, in the future, make changes to either prevent wide spread copyright infringement or tack those who do and collect damages. You have been forewarned.
