Release Information
Release downloads are made available to anyone with a valid license. See the Licensing page for details and the pricing table for costs.
Getting the Current Release
The current release is version 2.2.9290.5035.
- Download version 2.2.9290.5035 of InstallEduVNC.exe
- Browse the SVN Repository for version 2.2.9290.5035.
- Use a SVN client and checkout the URL: http://svn.eduvnc.com/EduVNC2/Releases/Current/
Download other release versions directly from our SVN Repository.
Using TortoiseSNV or other SVN client checkout http://svn.eduvnc.com/EduVNC2/Releases/Current/. Running an update then will retrieve any newly released versions.
Installing
Both installers do the about the same thing and you can use either on a single install. Both installers only place files in the %PROGRAMFILES%\EduVNC directory and only alter the registry to register the uninstaller. The InstallEduVNC.exe installer is the smaller of the two files and has more extras for administrators. It contains everything you need to make your own customized installer. The InstallEduVNC.msi version is larger, but exists because many deployment systems (and Active Directory) require this type of installer to work. It is minimalist and only installs those files necessary to run EduVNC. It is designed to be massively distributed without customization.
Using InstallEduVNC.exe
Install using the InstallEduVNC.exe installer either with a double click or add /S for silent install (the uninstaller also accepts /S for silent uninstall). Installation happens immediately and it is typically very fast. Icons will be placed in the Start Menu with the typical uninstall link.
Using InstallEduVNC.msi
Install using the InstallEduVNC.msi installer either with a double click or run with msiexec for silent install. Installation happens immediately. An icons will be placed in the Start Menu. The only uninstall link created is in the control panel (i.e. Add/Remove Programs on Windows XP).
Upgrading
The InstallEduVNC.exe will automatically overwrite any older files with new ones. If you wish to erase any existing settings run the uninstaller before running the installer.
- Stop any running services and exit EduVNC.
- Optional: Run the Uninstal from the programs folder or Start Menu (removes previous settings)
- Run the InstallEduVNC.exe installer.
Reverting to a previous version
To revert to a previous version you must run the uninstall before running an older installer. If the uninstaller is not run the current release files (which are newer than the file the installer would have install) will not revert to the previous version.
- Stop any running services and exit EduVNC.
- Optional: Backup saved settings in HKLM\Software\EduVNC with Regedit.
- Run the Uninstal from the programs folder or Start Menu.
- Run the InstallEduVNC.exe installer.
- Optional: Restore saved settings to HKLM\Software\EduVNC. In case of failure: remove settings for features not present in the older version.
Typical Release Contents
A release has two files: the InstallEduVNC.exe and the InstallEduVNC.msi. Either file is the release. Unlike with a Beta, the files to create custom installers are not distributed separately as they tend to confuse most users. If you wish to customize please use the extra files from the latest Beta and the files installed in this release. This method insure your get the latest installer, but the most stable EduVNC.
